Can I get braces during the coronavirus outbreak?

If you were due to get braces fitted this year, or you were planning to pop in for a chat about teeth correction options for you or your child, your plans may well have been scuppered over recent months thanks to Covid-19.

But don’t panic – there are still ways we can help you get the treatment you need. While we understand it’s frustrating to have to wait, there’s plenty we can do for you right now.

Face-to-face or video link

The good news is that we’re open for business and ready to help. When you book with us, you can choose between a face-to-face appointment and one via video link – whatever you’re most comfortable with. We’ll still be able to check your teeth and make an assessment, then recommend the best course of treatment for you.

You needed not to worry about safety, either. All our staff are taking extra precautions with robust personal protective equipment (PPE), and social distancing measures are in place, just as you’d expect.

Dental Monitoring

If you’re using Invisalign or fixed braces, you’ll be able to benefit from Dental Monitoring at home. It’s a brilliant system that allows us to send you instructions as to when to change your aligners, and give you advice on how best to use them. For fixed braces, it will tell you when you are due for your next appointment.

The way it works is this: you take photos of your teeth using your smartphone, and send them to us using the app. We can then see what needs to be done – aligner treatment can be tracked, and we notify you any time they need changing. Simple!

The great thing about Dental Monitoring is that it reduces the number of visits you need to make to the practice, which is important if you’re shielding or isolating, or even if you live in a remote area and can’t easily make trips to our practice. A recent study showed that people using Dental Monitoring had around two to three fewer face-to-face appointments at their practice than those who didn’t, making treatment even easier to fit into your busy lifestyle.

Taking the pics is easy too – don’t worry if you get stuck as there are online tutorials, or you can give us a call and we’ll talk you through it.

So while some things may be a bit different right now, there’s no need to make your teeth wait! Chat to us and we’ll put your mind at ease.
